Meet Our Doctor

Dr. Kian Eftekhari MD is an Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face. Dr. Eftekhari is board-certified and has extensive experience in eyelid surgery, cancers around the eyelids, thyroid eye disease, lower eyelid malposition, tearing, and facial paralysis.

Dr. Eftekhari utilizes a customized, patient-centered approach to both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, aiming to use non-surgical and minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. He also uses a combination of non-surgical and surgical approaches to facial rejuvenation including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and fat transfer surgery.

Dr. Eftekhari completed his undergraduate degree in Human Biology at Stanford University, where he was selected by his peers as the departmental graduation speaker. During his undergraduate career, he studied at Oxford University. During that time, Dr. Eftekhari studied film and philosophy, which informs his approach to achieving excellent aesthetic results for his patients. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, one of the top three medical schools in the country. In medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the most prestigious honor society in medicine.

Dr. Eftekhari was also the recipient of the Agnew Fellowship for surgical research and the Charles Oliver Award for excellence in ophthalmology research. Dr. Eftekhari completed his residency training at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania where he was mentored by pioneers in the field of oculoplastic surgery including Dr. Jim Katowitz, a specialist on pediatric eyelid disease. Dr. Eftekhari then completed an additional two years of subspecialty training in Oculoplastic and Facial Surgery with Dr. Richard Anderson in Salt Lake City.

After 10 years of training, Dr. Eftekhari became an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Kittner Eye Center. He trained many residents the nuances of eyelid surgery and conducted research on outcomes of oculoplastic surgery and facial trauma. During that time, Dr. Eftekhari recognized that his strongest passion is to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), and served as the chair of the of the Young ASOPRS Committee. In 2020, Dr. Eftekhari received the Outstanding Contribution Award from ASOPRS, one of the highest honors within our society.

Dr. Eftekhari has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals on topics including aesthetic eyelid surgery, thyroid eye disease, and blepharospasm. He has delivered lectures nationally and internationally on eyelid surgery, aesthetic surgery, thyroid eye disease, facial trauma and blepharospasm. He serves as a reviewer for ophthalmology and aesthetic surgery journals and is a writer of board-examination review materials in ophthalmology.

Dr. Eftekhari performs innovative, minimally invasive approaches to eyelid and forehead surgery including minimally invasive ptosis (droopy eyelid) repair, endoscopic forehead lifting, endoscopic midface lifts, and no-scar (transconjunctival) lower eyelid surgery. He also has significant experience treating cancer around the eyelids, blepharospasm and facial spasms including myectomy surgery, and facial trauma surgery.

Dr. Eftekhari has honed his strong clinical skills and aesthetic approach over his many years of specialty training and practice. He believes strongly in a team approach to care and works hard to ensure the best possible outcome for each individual he treats. His office is located in Downtown Salt Lake. Dr. Eftekhari lives in Salt Lake City with his wife and children where they enjoy all the Wasatch has to offer.

Anita graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Human Biology. She began working at the Eyelid Center of Utah in 2020. Anita is our point of contact for all our patients, from their visit in the office to scheduling surgery. Most importantly, she will be there for your care throughout the process from start to finish. Anita is currently working toward becoming a Physician Assistant.

She now serves as the chief financial officer, serving parallel roles at the Eyelid Center of Utah. We are truly grateful to have her unparalleled experience to help our patients.
