Dr. Kian Eftekhari employs a personalized, patient-centered approach to both reconstructive and aesthetic eyelid surgery, utilizing non-surgical and minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. He combines non-surgical and surgical methods for facial rejuvenation, including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and fat transfer surgery.

Dr. Eftekhari completed his undergraduate degree in Human Biology at Stanford University, where he was selected by his peers as the departmental graduation speaker. During his undergraduate career, he studied at Oxford University, focusing on film and philosophy, influencing his approach to achieving excellent aesthetic results for his patients. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania, one of the top three medical schools in the country. In medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the most prestigious honor society in medicine.

Recipient of the Agnew Fellowship for surgical research and the Charles Oliver Award for excellence in ophthalmology research, Dr. Eftekhari completed his residency training at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. There, he was mentored by pioneers in the field of oculoplastic surgery, including Dr. Jim Katowitz, a specialist in pediatric eyelid disease. Dr. Eftekhari then pursued an additional two years of subspecialty training in Oculoplastic and Facial Surgery with Dr. Richard Anderson in Salt Lake City.

After a decade of training, Dr. Eftekhari became an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Kittner Eye Center. He trained numerous residents in the nuances of eyelid surgery and conducted research on outcomes of oculoplastic surgery and facial trauma. During that time, Dr. Eftekhari recognized that his strongest passion is delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Dr. Eftekhari served as the chair of the Young ASOPRS Committee and, in 2020, received the Outstanding Contribution Award from ASOPRS, one of the highest honors within our society.

Dr. Eftekhari has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals on topics including aesthetic eyelid surgery, thyroid eye disease, and blepharospasm. He has delivered lectures nationally and internationally on eyelid surgery, aesthetic surgery, thyroid eye disease, facial trauma, and blepharospasm. He serves as a reviewer for ophthalmology and aesthetic surgery journals and is a writer of board-examination review materials in ophthalmology.

Dr. Eftekhari performs innovative, minimally invasive approaches to eyelid and forehead surgery, including minimally invasive ptosis (droopy eyelid) repair, endoscopic forehead lifting, endoscopic midface lifts, and no-scar (transconjunctival) lower eyelid surgery. He also has significant experience treating cancer around the eyelids, blepharospasm, and facial spasms, including myectomy surgery, and facial trauma surgery.

Honing his strong clinical skills and aesthetic approach over many years of specialty training and practice, Dr. Eftekhari believes strongly in a team approach to care and works hard to ensure the best possible outcome for each individual he treats.
